Dr. (Mrs.)

OYEKALE, Tolulope Olayemi

Short Profile

The main areas of my research focus are Agricultural Development and Production Economics. My contributions to knowledge from the Agricultural Development research focus have revealed the effects of socioeconomic, demographic and environmental factors on households’ multidimensional poverty, food and nutritional security. Moreover, the factors that contribute to households’ monetary poverty and income inequality given current changes in climatic scenarios have been found. My research findings have highlighted the impacts of government’s agricultural development programmes on households’ welfare. The roles of households’ covariate and idiosyncratic shocks in understanding welfare deprivation with focus on ill health, crop and livestock disease outbreaks and climate change have been identified. Some of these studies have also highlighted the major factors that are responsible for rural households’ engagement with sustainable use of farm resources and compliance with safety protocols in handling agrochemicals. I have analyzed rural households’ food safety and decision to consume organically produced food in order to promote sustainable agricultural development with emphases on the role of gender, access to non-farm incomes, market access, human capital development, access to functioning rural infrastructure, among others. Moreover, my research on Production Economics have highlighted how changes in land use patterns and land management practices have influenced resource allocation and efficiency in selected farm enterprises. These findings have underscored the need for interventions to promote technical and allocative efficiency levels among farmers.
