Dr. A. S. Oyelakin is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Pure and Applied Botany, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Nigeria. He is a botanist and researcher with over 12 years of experience in university teaching, research, academic administration, and community service. He obtained his B.Sc. in Biological Sciences (Botany), M.Sc. in Botany (Cytology and Cytogenetics), and Ph.D. in Botany (Cytology and Cytogenetics) from the University of Agriculture/Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta. His research expertise encompasses plant cytogenetics, biosystematics, genetic diversity, plant characterization, molecular markers, and the conservation and utilization of indigenous plant genetic resources. His research has particularly focused on economically important and underutilized crops, including pepper (Capsicum spp.), tomato (Solanum lycopersicum), African yam bean, and other indigenous plant species. Dr. Oyelakin has received competitive TETFund research and staff development grants and has participated in research projects addressing genetic diversity, crop improvement, sustainable production, and the characterization of indigenous plant resources. His doctoral research training included bench work at the Institute of Vegetable and Flowers, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China. As an educator, he teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses in botany, plant genetics, cytogenetics, plant taxonomy, ecology, biological techniques, and related disciplines. He has also supervised student research projects and contributed significantly to curriculum delivery and student development. His academic leadership experience includes serving as Acting Head of the Department of Pure and Applied Botany, Departmental Coordinator, Postgraduate Coordinator, Examination Officer, and member of several university and college committees. He is a Deputy Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies (CENTS). Dr. Oyelakin has published extensively in peer-reviewed national and international journals, including Scopus-indexed journals, and has presented his research at several national and international conferences. His academic interests continue to focus on plant genetic resources, biodiversity, crop improvement, and the application of botanical and molecular approaches to sustainable development.
