Professor Grace Oluseyi Sokoya is a Health professional, Gender Specialist, and Family Therapist, with over 45 years’ experience in healthcare, academia, research, and community service. She holds a B.Sc. in Nursing Education, as well as two Master’s degrees: the first in Educational Planning and Policy from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and the second in Community Health Nursing from the University of KwaZulu- Natal, Durban, South Africa. Professor Sokoya also has two doctoral degrees: a Ph.D. in Institutional Administration from the University of Ibadan (1990) and a Ph.D. in Gender and Family Studies from the University of Natal, Durban, South Africa (2003). She is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Management (MNIM) and a Fellow of the prestigious West African Postgraduate College of Nurses and Midwives (FWPCNM).
She is a Professor of Gender and Family Studies at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), where she combines teaching with research and community extension services. She served as the Pioneer Programme Leader of the Gender Issues and Youth Development programme of AMREC-FUNAAB from 1995 to 2013; and the first female Director of the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), FUNAAB, from 2013 to 2018. She has two books and numerous scholarly articles across several disciplines, including Nursing, Community Health, Gender and Family Studies, Agricultural Extension, Educational Management, and Institutional Administration. Her passion for improving healthcare delivery, promoting family health, and advancing gender studies has continued to impact lives and institutions across the globe. She delivered the 94th Inaugural lecture of FUNNAB entitled – Afrocentric and Gendered- Constructions of Psychological wellbeing in Families: The Sojourn of a Gender Scholar, on October 30, 2024.
