Short Profile

Prof. Adeniyi Adebowale SORETIRE is a Professor of Soil Microbiology in the Department of Soil Science and Land Management, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State, Nigeria. He obtained his B. Agric. and M. Agric. degree from the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta in 1995 and 2000, respectively. He bagged his doctorate degree from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria, in 2010.

He began his teaching and research career at the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta as Graduate Assistant in 1999 and rose through the ranks to become a Professor of Soil

Microbiology on October 1, 2020. He had his postdoctoral fellowship with the Department of Soil Science, University of Manitoba, Canada in 2012. He was a visiting Professor at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka from 2018 – 2020.

Professor Soretire has served the University in several capacities including: Supervisor and Programme Coordinator -Teaching and Farm Management Committee (Farm Practical Year programme), 1999-2007 and 2007– 2010, respectively; Departmental Coordinator – Part Time Degree Programme, 2014-2017; Project Treasurer and Coordinator - Community Organic Box Scheme, 2014-2016 and 2017 – 2018, respectively; College Representative – ICTREC

Committee, 2014-2018; Member – College Committee on Examination Results, 2014-2018; Postgraduate Programme Coordinator – Department of Soil Science and Land Management, 2021 to date. He is involved in research and supervision of students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and has been Postgraduate School Representative at Examination Panels from time to time. He is currently the Chairman, Publication Committee of the College of Plant Science and Crop Production and the Alternate Chairman, Local Organizing Committee of the 1st annual Conference of the College of Plant Science and Crop Production held between July 30th and 1st August, 2023.

Professor A. A. Soretire has published many articles in both local and International journals and attended conferences, workshops and training programmes in Canada and United States of America among others. He is a Registered Soil Scientist with the Nigerian Institute of Soil Science (NISS) and a member of several professional bodies. He is married to Dr.Eyitayo Aderonke Soretire, and they are blessed with children.
