Sustainable Power for Research Underway – VC

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde recently announced the progress of the University’s new Solar Power Plant during a visit to the site of the Solar Power Plant within the precincts of the Directorate of Works and Services.

Accompanied by key University Officials, including the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of Glorious Vision University (GVU) Ogwa, Prof. Babatunde Idowu, Dr. Adijat Atayese, and Engr. Tunde Oteshile, the Vice-Chancellor stressed the crucial need to adhere to the project schedule for its timely completion.

At the ongoing construction site, Prof. Kehinde engaged in a detailed discussion with the contractor and project consultant, noting the purpose of the visit was to evaluate the advancement of the vital infrastructural project, poised to revolutionise the University’s energy capabilities.

While inspecting the site, the Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the project’s timely completion, acknowledging the pivotal role the Power Plant would play in improving the University’s energy efficiency and sustainability, fostering opportunities for research and learning.

Speaking further, Prof. Kehinde stated that, “The completion of this Power Plant Project is of paramount importance to our University. It would not only ensure a consistent and sustainable energy supply for our academic and research needs but would also serve as a hub for innovative energy research and technological advancements”.

He emphasised the need to adhere to the project schedule and deliver it to the highest standards.

Scheduled for completion by mid-2024, the power plant’s construction incorporates cutting-edge technology, including renewable energy sources such as solar panels and energy-efficient equipment. This aligns with FUNAAB’s commitment to environmental sustainability and reduced operational costs.

Prof. Babatunde Idowu and other dignitaries who accompanied the Vice-Chancellor expressed their support for the project, recognising its potential to establish a benchmark for sustainable energy solutions in higher education institutions across Nigeria.
