The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kolawole Salako has lamented the level of youth involvement in crime in the nation, saying parents should take more interest in their children.
Speaking at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) Staff School 2021 Prize-Giving and Valedictory Ceremony, the Vice Chancellor attributed youths involvement in crime to joblessness, stating that the devil always find a space in idleness.
He however challenged parents to make it a point of duty to always check up on their children, stating that though they cannot be totally blamed for the moral decadence in the society, they should ensure they keep an eye on their children and take more interest in their activities.
Prof. Salako described children as the future of every nation and harped on the need to inculcate ideal ethics and morals so that they can become great future leaders.
He commended the Management and staff of both FUNAAB Staff School and FUNAAB International School (FUNIS), stating that their performances are commendable.
Earlier in her Address, the Headteacher, Mrs. Florence Alade while appreciating the Vice-Chancellor for his constant love and support, described him as a loving and caring father, noting that he has always given prompt and positive attention to the needs of the school.
Speaking on the performance of the students, she revealed that one of the outgone Primary Six Pupils for the 2020/2021 Academic Session, Adeniji Hannah was the best in Public Speaking at Primary Category among the 45 outstanding pupils in the state, adding that she was honoured by the Wife of Ogun State Governor, Her Excellency, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun.
Mrs. Alade further revealed that some of their pupils shone like stars at the ICT Competition organized by the Nigerian Computer Society (NCS), Ogun State Chapter, stressing that the School will continue to do her best in ensuring that the pupils move with time by introducing ICT Programmes which will enable them learn current trends in computer and technology.
According to her, “it is a pleasure to inform you that the school is not relenting in ensuring that our pupils move with time by introducing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Programmes to them where they will learn current trends in computer and technology, and we also want to assure our parents and would-be parents of quality education as the school is endowed with seasoned teachers. So, bringing your wards to this great school will not be regrettable”.
The HeadTeacher however appreciated the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) for their contributions to the growth of the school, stressing that the school looks forward to executing more big projects and donations from them.
She charged the Valedictorians to be good ambassadors of the school always and prayed that they live to succeed and fulfil destinies.
Highlights of the events was a donation of Children play swing by the Parents of the graduands, Presentations by pupils of the school and Presentation of gifts and prizes to outstanding pupils.
Present at the Ceremony was the Chief Host, Prof. Bolanle Akeredolu-Ale, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Mother of the Day, Prof. Petra Abdulsalam-Saghir, Director, FUCONS among many others.
