The Vice-Chancellor and Chairman, University’s Board of Trustees for Pension Administration, Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun has said that the University is not indebted to any of its pensioners.

Professor Balogun said this while delivering his Keynote Address at the Opening Ceremony of a 2-Day Workshop on Pre-Retirement Plan for staff, held at the College of Animal Science and Livestock Production’s Lecture Theatre.

The Vice-Chancellor reiterated that the University ensured regular payment of pension allowances by adopting the procedure of processing them alongside the monthly staff salaries, saying his administration is very passionate of the welfare of retirees.
According to him, “One of the hallmarks of the present administration is to promote the welfare of the generality of staff of the university. Let me assure you all that, we will not fail in this regard. Not only are we interested in the well-being of the serving staff, but it is also our concern that pensioners of the University are well taken care of. That is why the University pays the monthly pension at the same time that salaries are paid to the serving staff.”

The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that the training workshop was organised to prepare the minds of the participants for the challenges of life in retirement, stating that the major focus of the workshop was the basics of entrepreneurship and how to be gainfully engaged in post-retirement life.

Earlier in his Welcome Address, the Acting Registrar, Mr. Adeleke Adeboye, urged the participants to start an early preparation for retirement, adducing the major reason why pensioners suffer after retirement, to failure to plan before retiring from service.
