The UNAAB radio is to commence production soon, in readiness for full broadcast operations when it will hit the airwave of adjoining communities.
The station, almost fully equipped with a modern studio, is awaiting the visitation of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), to assess its state of readiness, after which a recommendation will be made to the Presidency for an operating license.
The Chairman of the Implementation Committee for the establishment of the Community Radio, Professor O.B Kehinde, gave the assurance during an interaction with UNAAB Bulletin, last week.
Professor Kehinde, exuding confidence, said, “We are very hopeful of the Presidency’s nod after the NBC’s visit as all things have been done to demonstrate our seriousness to have the radio station.
We already have a mast in place and we will get the transmitter immediately we received the official approval of the Presidency to operate”, he added.
The station, a community radio will cover between 10 to 20 kilometre radius when operational, but the Chairman was quick to reiterate that, “we are going to ensure that we transmit adequately enough to cover areas of residence of our students”.
The station when fully operational, will strive to propagate activities of the Campus and academic environment to the general public as it will also demonstrate, engage and report research activities, aimed at improving agricultural production within the University’s catchment areas.
