The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun, has called on Government establishments, corporate organisations and well meaning Nigerians to engage the Man ‘O’ War volunteers as means of stemming the tide of social vices among the youths, especially in tertiary institutions.
Professor Balogun who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development, Professor Segun Lagoke, made the call in his Address at the Passing Out Parade/Investiture Programme of the Man ‘O’ War, University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (UNAAB), Area Command.
The Vice-Chancellor who noted with dismay the alarming rate of cultism, rancor, acrimony and other social vices among Nigerian youths, blamed the negative tendencies on idleness and unbridled peer influence.
Describing Man ‘O’ War as a highly disciplined youth-oriented organization, Prof. Balogun commended the UNAAB Branch for contributing towards the prevailing peace on the University Campus.
He stressed that the selfless services the organization had been rendering during University programmes and at private events of members of the academic community, were exemplary.
Professor Balogun therefore called on government establishments, corporate organizations, donor agencies and well meaning Nigerians to support the noble cause of Man ‘O’ War as a vital means of engaging the youths productively.
In his Welcome Address, the outgoing Coordinator-In-Chief, Man ‘O’ War Nigeria, UNAAB Area Command, Patriot Olaniyan Kehinde, spoke on some of his achievements during his tenure.
He said a task force named Safety Response Squad, saddled with the responsibility of ensuring a security tight and conducive environment was inaugurated, while more squads such as the Rifle Squad, Special Squad, and Band Squad were also formed, among others.
