As part of its statutory duties, the Presidential Visitation Panel to the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (UNAAB), has toured the eight academic Colleges of the University.

In each of the Colleges visited, the Deans highlighted problems they face in the areas of teaching, research and extension services. They were unanimous in calling on government to inject more funds into the education sector in order to enhance manpower development.

Each of the Deans, took members of the Visitation Panel round the Colleges for on-the-spot assessment of College Libraries, Workshops, Lecture Theatres and Laboratories. The tour was largely interactive between the Panel members and the Deans.

In his own submission, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun, informed the Panel members on how his administration, since 2007, had deployed Internally-Generated Revenue and grants from the Education Trust Fund (ETF), in combating infrastructure problems in Colleges.

Professor Balogun was however emphatic in his opinion that the University urgently required more funds, for the University to adequately accomplish its goals and aspirations.

At the end of the tour, the Chairman and members of the Panel applauded the University’s Management for its foresight and dedication to the mandate demands of the institution.

The Vice-Chancellor was especially appreciated for his exemplary financial prudence and judicious utilization of scarce resources.

Professor Onazi, however, called on Management not to relent on its tradition of good maintenance culture.

He noted that what they saw was heartwarming, compared to the last time he visited the University, reflecting such to be “a true testimony of judicious utilization of both human and capital resources”.

“I also saw the excitement in both Academic and Non-Teaching Staff in receiving us”, said Professor Onazi.
