The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun exchanging handshake with the SUG President, Comrade Taiwo Semighan during the official hand-over of the Hyundai bus

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun has admonished the leadership of the University’s Students Union to be prudently above board and demonstrate impeccable conduct in learning and character.
The Vice-Chancellor gave the charge while handing-over a brand new Hyundai bus, facilitated by the erstwhile Chairman, Senate Committee on Education, Senator Joy Emodi, to the Student Union Executive of the University, last Thursday.

Cautioning that the reckless habit of handling properties, particularly vehicles, entrusted in their care must stop, the Vice-Chancellor asked the Union leaders to justify Management’s proactiveness and magnanimity on the students by jealously maintaining and preserving facilities put in place for their welfare.

Professor Balogun said, much as he loved the students as his biological children, he would not compromise on discipline. “I love the students, but it has a limit. Once it gets to irresponsibility, I don’t condone it. I have zero-tolerance for indiscipline”.

In his remarks, the Dean, Student Affairs, Professor Samuel Oluwalana, commended the relentless efforts of the Vice-Chancellor in ensuring a comprehensive development of facilities in the school, an attribute he said to be responsible for the model status the University is assuming in the nation.

The Dean also commended Management for the enabling academic environment with a call on the students to justify the gesture by always being of good behaviour and concentrate in the attainment of academic excellence.

Professor Oluwalana said the reference to UNAAB as the most peaceful higher institution in the country was heart -warming, observing that “the peace enjoyed in a community, depends largely on the leadership quality”.

Giving his response, the President of the University’s Students’ Union, Comrade Taye Semighan, said rather than rebranding, the society should imbibe attitudinal revolution with a cardinal disposition towards best practices and due process.

Comrade Semighan commended the impeccable moral code exhibited by the University Management, particularly the Vice-Chancellor, saying the exemplary conducts had great inspirational impact on the Union and the entire Student body.

He promised to ensure a judicious use of the new bus. It will be recalled that the erstwhile Senate Committee Chairman, Senator Joy Emodi, had promised the students while delivering the last Convocation Lecture, following a plea by the immediate past Students’ Union President, Comrade Layi Ogunpayimo, to assist in securing a bus for them.
