… Speaker promises to rehabilitate UNAAB Roads
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun has appealed to the Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Honourable Dimeji Sabur Bankole to facilitate the release of the University’s remaining capital fund for the year.
Professor Balogun made this appeal during a project inspection tour of the Speaker to the University.
According to the Vice Chancellor, only 400 million naira, out of the 1.4 billion naira appropriated for the University had been released.
He declared that the released funds had been adequately utilized, noting that all the projects embarked upon, were either 85 per cent completed or fully completed.
Responding to the plea of the Vice-Chancellor, Rt. Honourable Bankole said the life span of the budget might be extended till March next year, to accommodate uncompleted projects.
The Speaker stated that “the House will guard against situations where appropriated funds are unnecessary returned to the treasury”.
“If we have to, we will intervene like we did last year, by extending the life span of this year’s budget to March, to make sure funds are not unnecessarily returned to the treasury, but are utilized for projects which they are meant for”, he added.
In a similar vein, Honourable Bankole has pledged to rehabilitate the access road, leading to the University.
The Speaker made this pledge during a project inspection tour of the Unity House, Female and Male Hostels, which he donated to the University, in conjunction with some friends and associates.
The Speaker, who expressed satisfaction with the level of execution of the projects, stated that they will be due for commissioning by the end of October.
Bankole said that “I am satisfied with the state of progress of the projects and I can promise you that they will be commissioned by the end of October”.
On the University’s access road, he disclosed that he had directed the Federal Road Maintenance Agency to rehabilitate the roads and make them ready for commissioning, together with the projects, by October.
According to him “I am here with the FERMA officials and they have been directed to rehabilitate and make it ready for commissioning along side the building projects”.
In his response, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun appreciated the Speaker for his first class treatment given to the University stressing that since the establishment of UNAAB; Bankole had been the first individual to endow such laudable projects in the University.
