The United States Consulate has honoured the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde at the Graduation Ceremony of the recently concluded Permaculture Design Certificate Course.
The event was held today, January 12, 2024, and took place at the American Corner, Ikeja, Lagos State. The honour was jointly bestowed on the Vice-Chancellor by Kansas State University (KSU), and the US Consulate.
The Vice-Chancellor who was represented at the Ceremony by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development, Prof. Kola Adebayo encouraged the graduates to embrace Permaculture Design principles and ethics, stressing the importance of applying these principles to enhance Nigeria’s food security.
According to him, this involved addressing challenges related to food security, maintaining a healthy environment, ensuring self-sustainability of resources, and finding lasting solutions to climatic challenges.
Present at the Ceremony were the Dean, College of Plant Science and Crop Production (COLPLANT), Prof. Jonathan Atungwu; Dr. Jeremy Cowan of KSU, USA; the representative of the US Consulate in Lagos, and representatives from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Marine Science Department, as well as other diplomats and dignitaries from the academia.
Highpoint was the issuance of certificates to the graduating students, who were reminded that their achievement was not just a personal milestone but a call to contribute toward creating a better environment for Nigeria in particular, and the world in general.
