The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako has handed over the newly acquired Fortune Jeep to the University Librarian, Dr. (Mrs.) Fehintola Onifade and six other Toyota Yaris cars to Directorates, Centres and Units, declaring that they are not meant for luxury but for the job and safety of lives of the users.

The Directorates, Units and Centres who benefited from the vehicles included the Directorate of Public Relations, Internal Audit, Physical Planning, Zoo Park, Technologists and Technical Staff (DITTECS) and the Information and Communication Technology Resources Centre (ICTREC).

Speaking at the Handing-over Ceremony, the Vice Chancellor said “the cars are meant for the job that we have been employed to do, they are not meant for luxury. Each person who is here who has got a car has a job to do”.

Professor Salako who noted that the vehicles being used by the Units were old and malfunctioning, said it became necessary to provide better vehicles for them particularly to safeguard the lives of the members of staff for enhanced service delivery.

The Vice Chancellor disclosed that despite the paucity of funds in the University, his Administration was able to acquire the vehicles through prudent financial management, while recalling that earlier in the year, 10 vehicles were distributed to 10 Heads of Departments, one per College.

According to the Vice Chancellor, the Management is aware of the needs of the University and would continue to address them within the funds available.

He charged the recipients of the vehicles to take proper care of them so that they do not deteriorate in a short time.
