Professor Oyewole made this known in an address he delivered at the Fifth Induction ceremony of Veterinary Graduates by the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN) held at the College Auditorium, recently.

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Professor Felix Salako, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed that the Management  has embarked on the construction of a state of the art Veterinary Teaching Hospital Complex which is nearing completion.

He described Veterinary Medicine as a noble profession in which the practitioners must reflect and exude nobility both in dressing and behavior.

“The University is partnering relevant organizations and agencies at providing excellent Veterinary education in the country knowing fully well that, to build a 21st Century Ivory Tower requires enormous resources that may not be fully provided by the University”, he stated.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to all and sundry for their contributions to the College especially, Veterinary Council of Nigeria for the donation of equipment worth over Seven Million Naira to enhance the teaching of Veterinary Medicine in the University.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Dean, College of Veterinary Medicine, Professor (Mrs.) Morenike Dipeolu charged the inductees that whatever position they find themselves, they should exhibit the excellence that FUNAAB is known for as well as  the ethics of the Veterinary Profession.

She charged them to imbibe the entrepreneurial spirit of innovation, good image and integrity by contributing their quota to the development of the nation’s economy.

Professor (Mrs.) Dipeolu expressed appreciation to the University Management, National Universities Commission (NUC), Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN) and Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) for impacting positively on both the infrastructural and academic needs of the College.

The President of Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN), Professor Gabriel Ogundipe in his speech admonished the inductees to abide by the rules and regulations guiding the Veterinary profession in order not to be sanctioned by the Council.

He said the inductees should improve on the knowledge and skill acquired while in the University, adding that only Fellows of the Council will be eligible to occupy the position of Director of Veterinary Teaching Hospitals in Nigerian Universities.

“For the avoidance of doubts, a Ph.D degree in any field is not an alternative to Fellowship”, he added.

Professor Ogundipe congratulated the University for the development that have taken place in the College since inception.

In his speech, Dr. Gani Enahoro, President, Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) called on the inductees to continue to sharpen their skills, be computer, internet and social media literates.

The  NVMA President advised them to work hard wherever they find themselves, starting from the National Youth Service Corps Camp stressing that they must be twice in hardworking than their average colleague in the human medical field.
