The Vice-Chancellor, University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (UNAAB), Professor Oluwafemi Olaiya Balogun has advised youths to be careful in choosing their life career as this will determine their future well-being or otherwise.
He gave this advise at a One-day Career Talk, organised by a mentor under the aegis of the African Women In Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD), Mrs. Petra Abdulsalam-Saghir of the Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development.
The theme for the Career Talk was, “Youth of Today and Career Challenges of Tomorrow: The Way to a Better Sustainable Future”.
Prof. Balogun said, “The choice you make today has a bearing on a sustainable future. These choices have multiplier effects on what you become in the future and indeed, determines your well-being or otherwise.”
According to him, the theme of the programme will provide a platform, to guide the students in making the right career choice so as to be able to compete favourably with their peers, anywhere in the world.
The Vice-Chancellor also stressed that the choice of career had nothing to do with gender. “Being a female or a male does not create any barrier to how much you can soar and become highly successful in life. Our social constitution and the meaning apportioned to either male or female by our society is fast eroding and fading away.”, he added.
Congratulating the students for being privileged to attend the Career Talk, Prof. Balogun urged them to make good use of the opportunity as most great men in life were not privileged to attend such Talks while they were growing up.
Earlier, the Facilitator and AWARD Mentor, Mrs. Petra Abdulsalam-Saghir, said the programme was aimed at addressing challenges faced by youths in choosing their future careers.
