As a mark of honour, reverence, and in tribute to the departed iconic academic leader, and Pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Prof. Nurudeen Olorun-Nimbe Adedipe, the 7th Substantive Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, has directed that the University’s flags be flown at half-mast for three days, commencing immediately.

The University, which is in deep mourning, is honouring the legacy and visionary leadership of the First Substantive Vice-Chancellor who laid the foundation for the University’s remarkable growth.

Announcing the observance, Prof. Kehinde described Prof. Adedipe as a trailblazer and a distinguished scholar whose contributions to agriculture and higher education in Nigeria have left an indelible mark. “The passing of our Pioneer Vice-Chancellor is a profound loss not just to FUNAAB but to the entire academic and agricultural community. His vision, dedication, and tireless efforts were instrumental in the establishment and development of our University. He was a mentor, a leader, and a father figure to many,” Prof. Kehinde stated.

The Vice-Chancellor further emphasised that the three-day period of mourning is a solemn tribute to honour the memory of a man who transformed FUNAAB from its early stages into a premier University renowned for excellence in agriculture, research, and innovation.

Prof. Adedipe served as the Pioneer Vice-Chancellor of FUNAAB from its inception in 1988 until 1996 on a two-term of four years each. He was celebrated for his groundbreaking initiatives in agricultural research and infrastructural development, and his leadership helped position the University as a centre of excellence in agricultural education.
