In a bid to encourage the Yoruba cultural values and to propagate its ideals through catching them young from the primary level, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Felix Kolawole Salako, today, November 18, 2021 donated three sets of Talking Drums to the Cultural Troupe of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Staff School to facilitate their performance at events.
Professor Salako had promised to donate new Talking Drums to the children when they welcomed him with an old Talking Drum at the Professor Oluwafemi Balogun Ceremonial Building during the film show to celebrate his fourth anniversary in office.
The Talking Drums were received by the Headteacher, Mrs. Bukola Alade in the company of the School’s top management staff and with a mild display by the Cultural Troupe.
Meanwhile, the Talking Drum is a foremost Yoruba drum whose pitch could be regulated to mimic the tone and patterns of stress and intonation in human speech, particularly Yoruba idioms. The drums could be used as a form of communication, entertainment, praise singing, fun, folklore and leisure.
