The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kolawole Salako, has given out his daughter, Oludolapo in Holy Matrimony to Oluseun Agbejobi at the Living Spring Chapel International, Onikolobo, Abeokuta, Ogun State. In his sermon titled “God’s Purpose for Marriage”, the Presiding Pastor of the church, Pastor Femi Emmanuel, decried the high rate of abuses in marriage today, stressing that such abuses happen because most couples lack adequate knowledge about God’s intention and purpose for marriage. According to him, “There are many abuses in marriage today because the purpose that God has for marriage is not well understood. Many marriages are not happy because they failed to have a vision, understand their individual purpose and the reason why God instituted marriage”.
He admonished the newly-wedded couple to embrace God’s presence and always endeavour to add value to each other’s life. He highlighted companionship, progress, procreation, good health and longevity as the goals and problems that a marriage is expected to solve, stating that marriage is God’s product instituted to solve human problems. Pastor Emmanuel admonished them to see their home as their ‘bethel and haven for rest’, adding that they must run on God’s template to have a successful marriage. Similarly, the Senior Pastor of the church, Pastor Kayode Ojo described marriage as a sacred event and God’s will for mankind and not a legal contract. He encouraged the couple to be obedient and see their marriage as the perfect will of God for their lives, stressing that God would honour their faith if they are able to unite and agree with one voice in prayers and deeds.
The Chairman of the occasion and Provost, Federal College of Education, Osiele, Ogun State, Dr. Ayodele Ajayi counseled the new couple to learn to tolerate each other, appreciate their differences to have a good marriage, stressing that the certificate given to them signified the commencement of their marriage, which he described as a call to duty of building a home. He appreciated the couple’s families for giving him the opportunity to grace the occasion and prayed that God would give them the understanding to overcome every challenge. The Vice-Chancellor, while appreciating God for the opportunity, thanked everyone present for deeming it fit to celebrate with his family. Prof. Salako charged the couple to be prayerful and work together for a successful marriage. Present at the event were the Alake of Egbaland, Oba (Dr.) Adedotun Gbadebo; former Vice-Chancellor of FUNAAB, Prof. Oluwafemi Balogun; royal fathers; and Principal Officers of the University, among others.
