…Reaffirms Commitment to Infrastructure, Welfare and Eco-Tourism

In anticipation of a landmark addition to its animal population, the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) Zoological Park played host to a landmark event on April 5, 2025, as the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, undertook an extensive inspection tour of the Zoological Park’s 62-hectare expansive landmass.

The visit, which centred on preparations for the arrival of an elephant, marked a proactive step towards strengthening the Zoo Park’s infrastructure and operational capacity.

Welcomed by the Director of the Park, Prof. Sammy Sam-Wobo, alongside senior staff, Prof. Kehinde toured major animal enclosures and facilities, including the site earmarked for the construction of a standard elephant enclosure.

Throughout the visit, the Vice-Chancellor offered strategic directives geared towards enhancing animal welfare, improving existing structures, and expanding the Park’s capacity. He emphasised the importance of building a conducive environment not only for the animals but also for the staff working tirelessly behind the scenes.

His visit also extended to the Zoo’s Activities Centre, where he reiterated his administration’s resolve to provide a well-equipped and supportive workspace for staff. During an interactive session with the Zoo Park’s staff members, Prof. Kehinde reassured them of the Management’s unwavering commitment to the continued development of the Park and, as a practical step, directed that the Works and Services Directorate should commence work at the facility urgently.

The visit was met with enthusiastic appreciation by the staff and management of the FUNAAB Zoo Park, who described it as timely, visionary, and deeply motivating.

Prof. Kehinde’s presence at the Park once again highlighted the University’s dedication to promoting conservation education, advancing research, and expanding eco-tourism as its vital pillars.
