The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, has urged newly employed Academic Staff of the University to embrace innovation and recognise time as a critical asset in their career progression.

The Vice-Chancellor gave the charge during a One-Day Workshop organised by the Directorate of Research, Innovations and Partnerships (DRIP) for newly appointed Academic staff. The workshop, themed “Experimentation to Commercialisation: 21st Century Grant Writing Techniques,” was designed to equip participants with contemporary research and grant acquisition skills.
Congratulating the new staff members on their appointments, the Vice-Chancellor encouraged them to familiarise themselves with the University’s rules and regulations. He advised them to consistently reflect on how their contributions could advance the University beyond its current standing.

According to him, FUNAAB remains committed to sustaining its global relevance through a clearly defined vision and mission. He called on the new Academic staff to align with Management in achieving these goals, while upholding the legacies of the University’s founding fathers through integrity, diligence, and humility in their interactions with colleagues.
In his remarks, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Olawale Dairo, noted the importance of the workshop, saying that every university operates within specific guidelines and ethical frameworks. He stressed the need for strict adherence to institutional rules, adding that the programme was structured to clarify the culture and expectations of the University. Management, he emphasised, expects academic excellence, integrity, and full compliance with institutional values.

Also speaking, the Registrar, Dr. Titus Adeniyi, charged the participants to understand clearly what the University expects from them. He reminded them that ignorance would not be accepted as an excuse for non-compliance and urged them to pay close attention to all presentations.
Earlier, the Ag. Director of DRIP, Dr. Oluwagbemiga Adeleye, expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor for supporting the initiative. He noted that research in the 21st century has become increasingly commercialised, with both government and University Management expecting Academic Staff to attract research grants and generate funds through innovative projects. He encouraged the new lecturers to build networks with colleagues and pursue collaborative, impactful research capable of advancing their academic careers.

Similarly, Prof. Kayode Bamgbose advised the participants to remain resilient despite prevailing economic challenges. He urged them to collaborate with seasoned researchers within the University to enhance their productivity and professional growth.
As part of the workshop activities, a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Kola Adebayo, delivered a presentation titled “Experimentation to Commercialisation: 21st Century Grant Writing Techniques.” Other Resource Persons included Prof. Adeboye Fafiolu, who spoke on “Conceptualising an Innovation Study,” and Dr. Adeleye, who presented on “Different Windows and Opportunities for Researchers in FUNAAB.”
