… As FUNAAB Hosts 65th STAN Annual Conference

The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, has welcomed the participants of the 65th Annual Conference of the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN), which commenced today, August 18, 2025, at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta.

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor applauded the Association for sustaining a tradition of scholarly engagement, describing universities as not only centres of teaching and learning but also vibrant spaces for dialogue, discovery, and exchange of ideas. He noted that the conference reflects the collective commitment to advancing knowledge, fostering innovation, and addressing pressing national and global challenges through rigorous scholarship and collaboration.

Prof. Kehinde commended the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for bringing together scholars, researchers, practitioners, and students to share experiences that enrich the intellectual community and strengthen the bond between academia and society. He further encouraged participants to take advantage of their stay to explore FUNAAB’s serene environment as well as iconic tourist attractions in Abeokuta, including Olumo Rock and the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL).

Declaring the conference open, the Ogun State Governor, His Excellency Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun, CON, represented by the Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting science and technology education as a catalyst for development.

This year’s conference, with the theme “Language and STEM Education”, marks a historic return to Ogun State, 30 years after the Association last hosted its national gathering in 1994. The conference would run until Thursday, August 21, 2025, with subsequent sessions to hold at FUNAAB.

The Governing Council of STAN had earlier approved Ogun State as the host for the 65th edition, following a successful bid by the state branch. The Local Organising Committee comprises key education stakeholders, including members of STAN, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Teaching Service Commission, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), and Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS).

The annual STAN conference is renowned for attracting a large number of teachers, learners, and education practitioners across the three tiers of Nigeria’s education system, making it one of the country’s most impactful academic gatherings.
