Following the Federal Government’s directive that all eligible Nigerians should register for the forthcoming 2011 General Elections in the country, the University Management last week declared a 3-Day work and lecture free holiday, from Wednesday, January 26 to Friday, January 28, 2011.

According to a release, signed by the Acting Registrar, Mr. Adeleke Adeboye, Management took the decision, to enable all eligible students and staff, the opportunity of exercising their civic rights.

The release further stated that the University was cognizant of the various challenges associated with the registration exercise, particularly as they affected members of staff and students of the University.

The Management bemoaned the non-citing of Registration Centres on the University Campus, which it observed would have mitigated the hardship experienced by members of the University community.

In reaching the decision, Mr. Adeboye said, Management considered the long distance between the University Campus and the City Centre, the general logistic problems experienced at Registration Centres, the tight academic and administrative schedules for both students and staff and the agitation by students and staff to exercise their civic responsibility.

Staff and students of the University are however expected to present their registration cards at designated points, on resumption, the statement added.

Normal work resumed today, Monday, January 31, 2011.
