The Dean, College of Food Science and Human Ecology (COLFHEC), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Professor (Mrs.) Folake Henshaw has stated that FUNAAB Dons don’t crucify Seminar Presenters but encourage them.

Her words, “If you do well, we applaud you, but if you do not, we encourage you”.

Professor Henshaw however, declared that knowledge sharing is worth it and essential, adding that it is mutually beneficial, when learning from one another.

In a joint presentation titled, “Organic Sweet potato-Legume based Complimentary Foods for Infants and Young Children in Sierra Leone”, Mrs. Sawi, Memuna Kadie and Anthony Nyahabeh Mariama, from the Njala University, Sierra Leone, affirmed that producing food does not guarantee sufficient access to food.

Mariama declared that the objective of the Presentation is to develop a recipe which is a complimentary diet to be used by mothers in feeding their children, adding that part of the objective is also to reduce high malnutrition rate which is prevalent in Sierra Leone.

Also presenting on the topic “Promoting Organic Agriculture in Ghana: The Challenges, Opportunities and Way forward”, Dr. Kwame Frimpong and Mr. Ransford Amissah both from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana.

The Ghanaian Scholars noted that the West African Network on Organic Agriculture Research and Training (WANOART) has been an excellent body in the promotion of organic agriculture.

Canvassing further for Organic Agriculture as an alternate and better way of growing crops to the conventional means, Dr. Kwame advised for the use of the right resources and tools for growing the right crops, stating that Organic Agriculture is not just about food safety, but also about food security.

Dr. Kwame stated that under the umbrella of WANOART, Njala University, University of Cape Coast and FUNAAB is in the process of developing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
