The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, has reaffirmed that the Frontline Officers of the University constitute its leadership, having been divinely positioned to steer the institution towards greater heights.

Prof. Kehinde made this known today, August 19, 2025, during the Opening Session of the maiden 3-Day Retreat for Deans and Directors, being held at the Conference Hotel, Sagamu, Ogun State. The retreat, with the theme “Sustaining Innovative Partnerships and Excellence,” was specially designed for the category of officers.

Presenting a paper titled “State of the University,” the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the centrality of agriculture to national development, describing it as the cornerstone of food security, economic growth, and social advancement. He stressed the role of FUNAAB as a custodian of agricultural knowledge and innovation, while acknowledging the supportive oversight of the supervising Ministry in policy formulation, strategic implementation, and sectoral advancement.

According to him, under the visionary leadership of the 8th Governing Council, FUNAAB has been strategically positioned to deliver transformative outcomes that would bolster agricultural productivity, enhance food security, and empower farmers who remain the backbone of the nation’s agrarian economy.

Tracing the University’s steady growth from its modest beginnings to its current global relevance, Prof. Kehinde urged participants to recommit themselves to innovation, sustainability, and inclusivity, ensuring that FUNAAB’s efforts address present needs, while safeguarding the future.

“As ambassadors of change for renewed hope, we must carry forward the torch of progress, leveraging our expertise, resources, and networks to tackle emerging challenges. Together, we will continue to pursue excellence, innovation, and inclusivity, ensuring that agriculture remains central to the nation’s prosperity and well-being,” he charged.

The Vice-Chancellor further expressed profound appreciation to the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi, Odundun IV, Asoludero, the Aragbiji of Iragbiji Land, for his consistent commitment to agricultural education and national food security. He noted that the Pro-Chancellor’s exemplary leadership has continued to inspire the University Community to dream big, work hard, and make a lasting impact.

He concluded by commending Management and all participants for their dedication to advancing the University’s vision.

Meanwhile, the retreat is expected to feature insightful presentations from distinguished resource persons, including: Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, former Vice-Chancellor, Lagos State University (LASU), who would speak on “Rethinking University Administrative Intelligence” and Mr. Kuroh Ngoboh, to deliver a paper on “Enhancing Service Delivery and Revenue Generation through FUNAAB’s Strategic Position and Agricultural Edge.”
