By Femi Dansu & Abiodun Babatunde
The Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Mrs. Oloyede Forosola, on Monday, May 13, 2024, paid a Courtesy Visit to the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).
Accompanied by key representatives, she was received by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, who was represented by Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).
The purpose of her visit was to initiate discussions regarding the inspection and assessment of the Five Kilometre road stretching from Camp to FUNAAB Ceremonial Gate.
Mrs. Forosola clarified that the road falls under the category of a “Trunk B” road, indicating state ownership, contrary to prior assumptions of it being a “Trunk A” Federal road.
During the discourse, Mrs. Forosola highlighted the financial implications of rehabilitating the road, estimating it to be a multi-billion Naira project, which would necessitate approval from the Federal Executive Council (FEC) due to statutory regulations for projects exceeding a billion Naira.
Recognising the administrative delays this would entail, she proposed potential collaboration between state and Federal entities to streamline the process and expedite the project’s implementation.
Responding, the Vice-Chancellor expressed the University’s readiness to collaborate and extend full cooperation to ensure the successful execution of the road rehabilitation.
He assured Mrs. Forosola of the University’s willingness to have the road rehabilitated, as soon as possible.
The gathering also included key personnel, such as the Director of Works and Services at FUNAAB, Engr. Olawole Akinyele, and Engr. Babatunde Olasunkanmi from the Federal Ministry of Works, signifying the collective commitment towards addressing infrastructural needs and fostering synergy between academic institutions and government agencies.
