In a bid to enhance security and operations at the FUNAAB Zoological Park, the Director, Prof. Sam Olufemi Sam-Wobo, has donated three solar-powered streetlights to the Park.

The gesture follows challenges caused by the theft of the Zoo’s transformer cable, which disrupted the electricity supply and hampered operations. The incident affected water provision for animals, preservation of perishable food, particularly for carnivores, alongside essential administrative tasks. Since then, the Park has relied on generators, incurring high fuel costs without fully meeting operational needs.

The absence of electricity also compromised night-time visibility, posing safety concerns for both animals and facilities. The solar lights now provide much-needed illumination at night, helping to strengthen security within the premises.

Staff of the Zoo Park commended the Director’s timely intervention, noting that while the solar-powered lights address part of the night-time challenge, restoring the transformer cable remains crucial for optimal operations.
