CU 13th Convocation FUNAAB’s VC Represents Education Minister …As Minister Urges the University to Consolidate on its Gain

The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu has called on the Chancellor and Chairman, Board of Regents of the Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State to consolidate on its gains in quality education, innovation and creativity.

Represented by the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Professor Kolawole Salako, the Minister made this call during the 13th Convocation Ceremony of the University, held at the University Campus.

Mallam Adamu, while delivering his Goodwill Message to Covenant University said that consolidating on its gains will ultimately help the University to further produce graduates that can compete favourably in all spheres of human endeavour.

Congratulating the graduating students, he charged them not to rest on their oars but strive to better their lots in the acquisition of knowledge, in order to add additional feathers to their caps.

Mallam Adamu relayed Federal Government’s appreciation to private universities for their roles and efforts in providing access to quality tertiary education and also ensuring that a reasonable number of citizenry are gainfully employed.

Speaking on Government’s commitment to Education, he said “I wish to reiterate Government’s commitment to creating and sustaining a conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning at all levels of Education.”

“A general consensus of the current administration is to put Nigeria on the pedestal of functionality, in order to restore our past glory. One of the major areas of reform in confronting our national challenges head-long is in strengthening our educational system which remains the foundation of human capital development.” “It is therefore imperative to ensure that our educational institutions are given adequate attention”, he stated. Mallam Adamu, described Convocation as an important milestone in the educational journey of the country, because it has increased the stock of educated and qualified human resources on whom Nigeria relies on for development and transformation.

Delivering the Keynote Address titled, “Influencing Change in Africa: Roles and Responsibilities of Emerging Leaders”, The Chairman, First Bank of Nigeria Plc, Mrs. Ibukun Awosika challenged the graduating students to be focused and be flexible in life.

She tasked them to look inward for the development of the country and should not rely on Europe, America or China to develop their country for them.

Mrs. Awosika noted that their success lies in their hands, charging them to imbibe the spirit of humility, respect for all classes of people they come across and, above all, the fear of God.

Speaking earlier, the Chancellor, Covenant University, Dr. David Oyedepo described the graduands as emerging eagles bound to soar higher He charged them to be a good drivers and leaders wherever they findthemselves, noting that the country relies on them for the desired transformation in the nearest future.

The Vice-Chancellor also delivered a goodwill massage to CU on her Convocation.
