Council received a recommendation from Senate on the Honorary Degrees Committee.

Council noted that the Senate of the University was proposing to change the name of Honorary Degree Committee to Honorary Degrees and Monuments Committee.

Council noted that this was to enable the Committee to include additional and encompassing responsibility of naming of University’s Buildings, Streets and other monumental places in the Committee’s Terms of Reference.

Council noted that the Membership and Terms of Reference of the Committee will be thus:

Membership
Pro-Chancellor – Chairman
Vice-Chancellor – Alternate Chairman
Three External Representatives of Council – Members
Two Senate Representatives – Members
Registrar – Secretary

Terms of Reference

  1. To consider and approve recommendations from Senate for the award of Honorary Degrees, Fellowship or the title of Professor Emeritus.
  1. To formulate guidelines for naming of University Buildings, Streets and other monumental places for Senate approval.

 

  1. To make recommendations to Council through Senate for approval of proposed names.

Quorum: 60% of Membership
Frequency of Meeting: As the need arises.

Council approved the change of name of the Honorary Degrees Committee to Honorary Degrees and Monuments Committee and the new terms of reference.
