27th Convocation Begins

Activities for the 27th Convocation Ceremony of the University kicked off on Friday with the Jumat Service, held at the University Mosque, Theatre Performance, Film Show titled, “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind” directed by the Nigerian-born British actor, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and to be screened by ‘Tunde Kelani, as well as the Inter-denominational Church Service on Sunday at the Chapel of Grace.

The Convocation Press Conference holds today, January 27, 2020 at the Senate Chamber by 10am, followed immediately by the Commissioning of Projects at 11am, and Research and Agricultural Fair at the FUNAAB Ceremonial Building, beginning at 12 noon. At the FUNAAB Ceremonial Building, the Convocation Lecture titled, “The Beast Unburdened Once Again: Artificial Intelligence and Life More Abundant”, to be delivered by a renowned media guru and Executive Director, The Nation newspapers, Prof. Adebayo Williams, under the Chairmanship of Prof. Ayoade Ogunkunle of the Department of Agronomy, University of Ibadan, Oyo State by 2pm.

Prof. Adebayo is a scholar with a career spanning almost 50 years and multi-disciplinary scholar with books and scholarly articles in Theory of Literature, Political Theory, Theory of Governance and Democratisation, Cultural Production, Post-Colonial Theory, and Creative Writing. Climax of the events on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 is the award of Academic and Honorary Degrees, as well as the conferment of Emeritus Professorship on former Vice-Chancellors of FUNAAB, Prof. Julius Okojie and Prof. Israel Adu, starting from 10am at the FUNAAB Ceremonial Building. A former Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development and incumbent President, African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwumi Adesina would also be conferred with an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science.
