The Agricultural Media Resources and Extension Centre (AMREC), in conjunction with Gender Development Initiative (GenDI); Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Ogun State Chapter and Small Adult Voices partnered recently, with Wheels of Hope Rising Foundation to empower over 100 school children as well as more than 80 rural dwellers which comprised of men and women.
The rural intervention health care and education programme tagged, “Giving hope tothe hopeless and underprivileged”, was carried out at Isaga-Orile community in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State with the aim of teaching the rural dwellers and youths the importance of good health and the role of parents in their children’s education.
In her Welcome Address, the Director, AMREC, Professor Dorcas Adegbite commended the stakeholders for the timely intervention and for collaborating with the Centre.
Responding, the Onisaga of Isaga, HRH Oba Joseph Tella while giving his royal blessing to the occasion, appreciated AMREC and other stakeholders for choosing Isaga community for the intervention programme.
Encouraging the beneficiaries to always maintain good hygiene and take care of their health, the Team Leader, Wheels of Hope Rising Foundation, Mr. Adigun Temitayo and the Founder, GenDI, Professor Bunmi Asimolowo admonished the beneficiaries to avoid self-medication and maintain clean environment always.
The duo encouraged the pupils to take their education serious, adding that they should see themselves as future leaders while avoiding bad associations.
Responding on behalf of the participants, Mr. Popoola Ayinla lauded the gesture of the organisers and sponsors of the programme, adding that the commitment of the people towards the success of the programme was commended.
Highpoint of the event was the checking of blood pressure of adult participants while drugs and mosquito nets were distributed. Weight and height of the participants were also checked, in addition to distribution of books to pupils and certificates of participation to participants.
