The Agricultural Media Resources and Extension Centre (AMREC) has organized a 2-day Training of Trainers (Multipliers) for knowledge dissemination in Organic Agriculture, under the Knowledge Centre Organic Agriculture in Africa (KCOA).
Speaking during the Opening Ceremony of the Training Workshop, the Director, AMREC, Prof. Olalekan Olaoye welcomed all participants on behalf of the University, praying that knowledge to be acquired will not be in vain.
He revealed that a lot of crops in Nigeria are being grown with Chemicals, while Chemicals are also being used as preservatives for various crops harvested from farms.
Prof. Olaoye noted that in other countries where organic foods are in sales, it bears better market price, compared to countries like ours. He promised that at the end of the training, knowledge taken will enable trainees to pass such on and in no time, our food will turn organic.
Also, the President Association of Organic Agriculture Practitioners of Nigeria (NOAN), Prof. Victor Olowe welcomed participants and promised that the training will be worth it at the end of the day.
Dr. Oluwakemi Irekhore of AMREC was the Master Trainer, South Western Nigeria, and was in charge to train the selected Rural Service Providers (Extension Agents) in the 2-day training.
Participants in the training cut across all Agricultural Development Programme (ADP) Representatives from the South West States of Nigeria.
