The Agricultural Media Resources and Extension Centre (AMREC) of the university last week organised a One Day Workshop to sensitise and orientate people of Budo-Ayetoro and neighbouring community on benefits of good health and nutrition.
The Workshop which was aimed at strengthening the cordial relationship between FUNAAB and members of the community, featured medical assistance and free treatment.
Declaring the programme open, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako who was represented by the Deputy Director AMREC, Dr Olalekan Oyekunle said, capacity building Workshop is premised on the fact that a community that is disease free would be optimally productive.
He explained that the benefits of maintaining good health by members of the community will encourage them to adhere to their medical prescription and stay healthy.
According to him, “Consumption of healthy diets and adequate proportion would not only promote the well-being by improving mood, energy, self esteem, concentration and performance but would also reduce vulnerability to illness.”
In her Address, the Director of AMREC, Prof. Dorcas Adegbite who was represented by the Deputy Director of AMREC, Dr Olalekan Oyekunle admonished members of the community to pay attention to their health, stressing that health is of paramount importance to Agriculture and economic growth of the society.
The Director disclosed that the “workshop aims at sensitising as well as educating beneficiaries on linkage between nutritional habits with implication on the health status “.
He urged all beneficiaries to maximise the opportunity of the Workshop in order to acquire the knowledge needed for exhibiting healthy lifestyle.
The University medical team examined and administered free treatment to members of the community at no cost as well as enlightened them more on the benefits of balance diet intake.
The Baale of the community who was represented by Mr. Dauda Badamosi thanked the Vice Chancellor and the team for reaching out to them disclosing that it was the first of its kind in the community.
In his vote of thanks, the Secretary General of Budo Ayetoro Community, Mr Oguntusi Adisa also appreciated the university, adding that the community benefited greatly from the programme and prayed for the university, its staffers and Management.
