A renowned Professor of Clothing and Textile, Prof. Adetoun Amubode has charged her students in the Department of Home Science and Management (HSM), College of Food Science and Human Ecology (COLFHEC), FUNAAB to be good ambassadors of the rich heritage of Nigeria’s cultural dress code and export in clothing and textile, as well as the University.

Prof. Amubode gave the charge even as she admonished her students in the Department of HSM who turned out in rich mixture of Nigeria textile fabrics with foreign touch in some cases, to embrace modesty as a way of life in their dressing.

Prof. Amubode who was a delight to behold in her catchy eye popping creative outfit and her scintillating cat walk on the runway with her students stated this while welcoming participants, assessors and guests to the Annual Clothing and  Textile Fashion Show and Exhibition of the Department of HSM, COLFHEC, held at Oluwafemi Balogun Ceremonial Building.

She noted that, clothing reflects the norms and values of a nation while traditional dresses preserve cultural heritage and promote cultural diversity, modest dressing which gives sophisticated look, confidence, self-respect and good impression.

Prof. Amubode urged parents to teach their children to treasure decent dressing rather than trading their moral values for inordinate exuberance and peer influence, stressing that everyone should embrace decency in dressing and give the Nigerian culture the needed value for others to cherish.

Explaining further, the Professor of Clothing and Textile said dressing is a non-verbal communication which lend credence to the values of inner quality.

Speaking earlier, the Head of Department, Home Science and Management (HSM), Dr. Abolanle Lasode who was represented by Mrs. Bukola Sowemimo stated that fashion is more than just clothing but a language that speaks volume about people’s identities, aspirations and the world they inhabit.

She disclosed that students have drawn inspiration from diverse sources such as natural to contemporary social issues, which makes this year’s fashion Show to be about story telling through clothing and not just about aesthetics.

She however expressed her heartfelt gratitude to mentors who nurtured talents in the students, stressing that their guidance has instilled in the students the skills and wisdom to thrive in the dynamic world of fashion.

HSM students exceptionally impressed the audience with their polished cat walk on the runway, as well as creative design and the attendant infectious dress code in Nigeria’s sense which earned them ovation at the Show.

Prof. Amubode was a side attraction as she was exemplary and emulatable, doing it by example when she hit the runway with ‘ain’t seen anything yet’ cat walk and cultural dress sense that captivated the audience.

Highlight of the Show was the Launching of the Fashion Show magazine for 2023 which conspicuously and imposingly displayed the crystal clear pictures of all the students adorned in various traditional outfits, which they individually designed and wore on the runway.

Dr. Oladele Oladeji of the Department of Agricultural Extension and Farm Management (AEFM) while lunching the magazine, stated that Home Science Management students are known for creativity and entrepreneurship, exuding confidence that the world should watch out for them because they are on the verge of hitting the global facet of Fashion Show running with garlands

He appreciated the H.O.D and the lecturers for their roles in mentoring and nurturing the students to become good ambassadors of fashion, their homes, the University and the country, at large.
