The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kolawole Salako has admonished Nigerian students and youths to stay focused, determined, and believe in themselves in order to achieve greatness in life.

Prof. Salako gave the admonition when he received students of Ijamido Children’s Home, Ota, Ogun State, who were on a mentorship tour to his office.

According to him, “you should not see your family background as a barrier to attaining greatness and you should not bother with what people would say about you, but rather stay focused on what you want to achieve in life, believe in yourself and be spiritual enough to know that God is there to lift you up. Do your bit and leave the rest to God, you can live your normal life without being sinful”.

He urged the students to bear in mind the progress of their communities and see how they can be of help to the society, even as he warned them to desist from going into fraudulent acts. Prof. Salako stressed that there is no way they could cheat others and have peace of mind, adding that “Anything you have without peace of mind, is not enjoyment”.

Corroborating the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Clement Adeofun disclosed that God had deposited gifts and talents in every individual, however, it was left to individuals to develop them. He urged the children to acquire special skills that would make them become exceptional in life.

In the same vein, the Registrar, Dr. ‘Bola Adekola, advised the students to  determined on what they want to do and pursue education for the sake of knowledge, skill, and ability, to be useful in society.

The Registrar charged them to build their life in truth, have a clean heart and mind and apologise whenever they err, adding that it is sheer laziness that drags most youths into crime.

Meanwhile, Dr. John Willoughby, Senior Director and Head of Administration, Ijamido Children Home, appreciated the Vice-Chancellor and the entire FUNAAB management for the warm welcome accorded them and the experiences shared, to set them on the right path of life through proper mentoring.
