The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kolawole Salako has charged Non Agriculture Students of the Department of Environmental Management & Toxicology and Water Resources & Agrometrology, embarking on their 2020/2021 Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme(SIWES) Batch B to be of good character wherever they go for their SIWES Programme.
Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof Christian Ikeobi, the Vice-Chancellor appreciated the Industrial Training Fund(ITF) for providing FUNAAB students the opportunity of SIWES programme.
Prof. Salako also appreciated the Director of SIWES, Prof. Adeola Akinyemi, for proving himself worthy within short period he assumed office as the Director of SIWES.
In her presentation, the Industrial Training Fund, Abeokuta Area Manager, Mrs Funmi Coker, represented by Mr Jide Ogunjobi stated that the SIWES programme was a prerequisite requirement for students to pass through before graduating.
Mrs Funmi Coker charged the students to put in their best during the SIWES programme because it is likely to open doors of employment for them if they perform to the expectations of the organization where they served. She made it known that if they behave very well at their training venue, it will assist other students coming from FUNAAB in future.
Delivering his Address, the Director SIWES, FUNAAB, Prof. Adeola Akinyemi, appreciated the University Management for the opportunity given him to serve as the Director of SIWES and lauded the ITF Area Office Abeokuta, for the presentation of an Award to the University on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, as the ‘Best Institution in 2020 SIWES Activities in Ogun State’.
He noted that this would be the second of it’s kind after the first which was received as the ‘Best performed in SIWES Activities among Nigerian Universities in October 2008’.
Prof. Akinyemi said that the orientation programme was an avenue to inform students on the dos and don’ts of the SIWES programme and how students can protect themselves during the programme.
He restated that SIWES is the accepted training programme, which is part of the approved Benchmark Minimum Academic Standard (BMAS) in various degree programmes for all Nigerian Universities, adding that this makes it a compulsory requirement for the successful completion of Programmes in the University.
The Dean, Student Affairs, Prof. Mobolaji Omemu represented by the Deputy Dean, Student Affairs, Prof. Adeboye Fafiolu charged the students to be good ambassadors of the University.
She observed that many students do not know how to fill their log books, advising them to use the opportunity of the orientation programme to acquire more knowledge.
