Farm Officers in the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) have been charged to focus on research by seeking partnerships with established Scientists in the University, in order to enhance service delivery.

Professor Isaac Aiyelaagbe, the Coordinator, West African Network on Organic Agriculture Research and Training (WANOART),  Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), gave the charge while delivering a Paper titled “Initiating and Undertaking Research” at the 2013 Pre-Season Training Workshop for Senior Staff of the Directorate of University Farms (DUFARMS).

In his Paper, he highlighted various types of Research which including Explorative, Demand driven, Basic Sciences, Social Sciences and Undergraduate students researches.

Professor Aiyelaagbe further informed that, in undertaking research, the researcher must prepare a budget which will serve as a guide in carrying out research.
He enjoined the Directorate to continue to organize this type of training from time to time, stressing that the leadership of DUFARMS should always look for donors outside the University in order to reduce its level of reliance on the Management.
The Director of Internal Audit, FUNAAB, Mrs. Francisca Aroyeun in her Paper titled, “Budgeting as a Tool in Resource Allocation and Eliminating Wastes, Leakages and Determination of Improvement Solutions” described budgeting as the planned allocation of available funds/resources to each department within an institution/organization in a given period while resource allocation is an approach at assigning the available resources of an organization in an economic way among various projects, departments and units within the (organization) system.
She stressed that the success of an Institution is highly dependent on the resource allocation, noting that in resource allocation, the budgeting of a department or an Institution plays an important role in deciding the maximum fund that an Institution can afford.
Baring her mind on the ways of eliminating wastes and leakages, Mrs. Aroyeun said one of the approaches is to focus on  the Price, Quantity and Standards of the goods and services to be delivered by suppliers, adding that Units and Directorates heads should collaborate with the Bursary to check and ensure from time to time that vote books are updated for all expenditure in accordance with the approved annual budget.

Professor Omotayo urged every manager to delegate duties to their subordinates and by this the manager is known as a person who develops people, who create opportunities for himself and others.
“The more you delegate, the more your team members are motivated because they see you as someone who trust them and their abilities to get things accomplished”, he added.
The Deputy Director, Final Account and College Finance, FUNAAB, Mr. A. J. Olusanwo while delivering his paper on the topic “Assessing Budgeted Funds for Commercial Projects and Research activities” disclosed that whichever goals an institution set out to achieve, there is need to plan ahead before embarking on any project so that the available resources will be judiciously utilized.
