The Dean, College of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development (COLAMRUD), Professor Wale Dipeolu has charged students in his College to be studious as that is the primary and most important reason why they are in the University.
Giving this charge during an interactive session organized for the students by the College, Professor Dipeolu informed the students that there is no short cut to success adding that the grades that they eventually graduate with from the University can be determined from their approach to their studies right from their first day in the University.
The University don explained the importance of the University Library, 24-hour Library and College Library and encouraged the new students to make use of them towards attaining their academic goals.
He also informed the students of the presence of level advisers who they can approach to help them out in any issue that they might have.
Corroborating the Dean, the Head of Department, Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, Professor Olubunmi Ashimolowo stated that the Orientation programme tagged ‘Experience’ aims at addressing all the issues that students are often faced with, some of which might lead to psychological problems, health issues and trauma.
She disclosed that to properly address these issues, the University Lawyer, University Counsellor and the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the University were invited to share their experiences in their interaction with students in their respective fields.
In her presentation, the University’s Counsellor, Dr. Modesta Ofodile provided insights on the University’s rules on dressing and conduct within and outside the campus.
She enumerated issues which could lead to a student being rusticated from the University to include Examination Malpractices and involvement in social vices.
The Counsellor also warned the students against crossing the lawn as such an act could cost them their studentship if done repeatedly.
The University lawyer, Mrs. Oluyemisi Daramola in her presentation highlighted the penalties associated with the violation of the University’s rules and regulations.
She, however, noted that it is very easy and possible to complete a course of study in the University without facing the Student Disciplinary Committee (SDC) only if the students keep to the rules and regulations of the University.
Speaking on security issues in and outside the Campus, the Assistant Chief Environmental Officer, Mr. Bolarinwa Peters advised the students to always be security conscious, stop moving around at night and to report suspicious persons, behaviours or threats.
The event was graced by President, Student Union (SU) Comrade Adeola Ahmed, President, Nigeria Association of Agricultural Student (NAAS), Comrade Bolaji Oyeleke, the President of the Agricultural Extension and Rural Development Students Association (AERUDSA), Comrade Oseni Abdulahi and the immediate past President of the Agricultural Extension and Rural Development Students Association (AERUDSA), Comrade Folami Ojo among others.
