The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Farmers Association today, November 16, 2023, marked another significant achievement with a bumper harvest of yams.
Tubers of yams were displayed in front of the Directorate of Internal Audit for sale, allowing staff to choose their preferred selections as they entered and exited the Directorate.
Prof. Kola Adebayo, the Board Chairman of the FUNAAB Farmers Association and also the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), attributed the remarkable harvest to the cultivation of just two plots of land within the University.
In response to concerns about the security of the University farms and reports of yam and maize theft, Prof. Adebayo advocated for the use of drones to enhance security measures.
Additionally, Prof. Adebayo encouraged the Association to identify other suitable plots of land within the University to expand yam cultivation.
Prof. Mufutau Atayese, the Adviser to the FUNAAB Farmers Association, played a pivotal role in the Association’s success leading up to the bumper harvest.
Mr. Emmanuel Akinbo, formerly of the Directorate of Internal Audit, now serves as the Chairman of the FUNAAB Farmers Association.
Meanwhile, Mr. Babatunde Oyebamiji of the Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development (AE&RD), College of Agricultural Management and Rural Development (COLAMRUD), holds the position of the Association’s Secretary.
