Motorists and pedestrians have commended the erection of speed breakers on the newly rehabilitated Camp/Alabata Road.
Speaking on the erection of the speed breakers in a chat with FUNAAB Bulletin, a cross-section of the interviewees, comprising commercial drivers, students, passengers, petty traders and members of staff of the University described it as a welcome development.
According to Miss Faith Akerele, a 300 level student of College of Management Science (COLMAS), the erection of speed breakers will go a long way in saving the lives and property of road users.
Speaking in the same vein, a petty trader at Camp Junction who simply gave her name as Mrs. Adijat Bolajoko said prior to the erection of speed breakers she was apprehensive of possibilities of having ghastly auto crashes and the attendant casualties on the road because motorists were taking advantage of the smoothness of the rehabilitated road to speed with impunity.
However, Mrs. Bolajoko beaming with smile said her fear was allayed and her joy knew no bounds when speed breakers were erected because they will check speed and as such, save lives and property.
Also, a commercial cab Driver, who simply gave his name as Franklin described the erection of the speed breakers as good riddance to the balderdash of reckless driving on the road.
He urged the contractor through the University Management to increase the number of speed breakers on the road, especially in the sloppy portion of the road after leaving Ogun-Oshun River Basin Development Authority (ORBDA) and at the Mini Bridge close to Harmony Estate on the way to Alabata.
Only recently, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kolawole Salako at a meeting with National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), ACOMORAN, RTEAN Camp branch expressed concern over safety of lives and property on the newly rehabilitated road.
He called on the leaders of the road users to warn their members to desist from reckless driving on the road.
Prof. Salako assured his guests of the readiness of the University to take measures towards safeguarding lives and property on the road.
