COBFAS Holds Orientation Programme for FPY Students

The Community-Based Farming Scheme (COBFAS) of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has conducted the 2023/2024 Academic Session Orientation Programme for students enrolled in Agriculture-based courses at the University, preparing them for the upcoming Farm Practical Year (FPY).

Speaking at the Opening Ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde stressed the importance of being genuine and responsible during the FPY, particularly in maintaining accurate log-books.

He encouraged the students to represent the University positively and leverage the opportunity to contribute to its growth.

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development, Prof. Kola Adebayo, the Vice-Chancellor, while highlighting COBFAS’s role underscored the successful efforts to integrate students into farming systems and community life, including culture across various COBFAS locations.

He urged the students to uphold the University’s reputation through their conduct and character, emphasising the potentials of attracting opportunities to FUNAAB.

In his lecture, the Director, COBFAS, Prof. Sunday Adigbo, provided an overview of the FPY, including course details, codes, credit units, and enterprise. He encouraged the students to seize the opportunity for practical experience and act as ambassadors for the University.

The Deputy Director, Dr. Sakirat Ibrahim, covered the rules and regulations governing FPY, emphasising punctuality, respect for Farm Officers, and strict adherence to the recommended dressing code.

Dr. Ibrahim addressed issues such as proper registration, use of identity cards, and the responsible handling of University property.

She stressed the importance of wearing farm boots and advised against exposing bodies to strangers.

In her lecture, the Chief Agricultural Officer of COBFAS, Mrs. Olubukola Fasae outlined the Do’s and Don’ts during the FPY, stressing the critical role of farmers in nation-building.

Dr. Adedayo Oduwole, representing the Ag. Director, Health Services provided health tips, advising students to use mosquito nets and repellant creams, while The Head of SERVICOM, Mr. Olujinmi Ogundimu, explained SERVICOM’s mandate to eradicate service failures in the University.

He emphasised the importance of efficiency in service delivery and highlighted SERVICOM’s commitment to delivering basic services to the people in a timely, honest, and transparent manner.
