…As VC Reiterates FUNAAB’s Commitment to Bridging the Gap Between Theory and Practice

The College of Biosciences (COLBIOS), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) marked another milestone as it recently hosted its 3rd Bioscience Conference.

The event drew together esteemed scholars, researchers, and industry leaders from across the globe to explore the theme “Emerging Frontiers in Biosciences: From Theory to Application.”

The Opening Ceremony which was held at the Red Chamber was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde who emphasised the University’s commitment to bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, particularly in fostering collaborations with the private sector for the commercialisation of research findings.

Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development, Prof. Kola Adebayo, the Vice-Chancellor underscored FUNAAB’s expanding role not only in agriculture but also in veterinary science and artificial intelligence, positioning the institution as a nexus of interdisciplinary innovation.

Highlighting the unique ecological setting of FUNAAB, situated between rainforests and savanna forests, Prof. Kehinde urged participants to explore the diverse ecological landscapes within the University premises, offering unparalleled opportunities for bio-scientific inquiry.

Earlier in her Welcome Address, the Dean, COLBIOS, Prof. Iyabode Kehinde expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor for the opportunity to convene the conference, stressing the transformative potential of Biosciences in addressing contemporary challenges.

She noted the pivotal role of Bioscience research in advancing scientific and technological knowledge, calling for more concerted efforts to translate research findings into tangible solutions for societal benefit.

Addressing the Conference’s sub-themes, including harnessing microbial power, advancing healthcare, and leveraging plant potential for national development, the Dean outlined the imperative of interdisciplinary collaboration and robust infrastructural support for research endeavours.

In the Keynote Address delivered by Prof. Abiodun Ayodele from the University of Ibadan (UI) it delved into the overarching theme of the Conference, emphasising the transition from theoretical frameworks to active participation in Biosciences.

With over three decades of expertise in botanical research, Prof. Ayodele’s insights illuminated the path towards unlocking the full potential of Biosciences in addressing pressing global challenges.

The 3rd Bioscience Conference at COLBIOS stood as a testament to FUNAAB’s unwavering commitment to advancing knowledge and driving innovation in Biosciences for the betterment of humanity.

Highpoint was the presentation of awards to COLBIOS Ambassadors who were making marks in their different fields of endeavours.
