Welcome Address

 

I am delighted to welcome you to the Department of Veterinary Anatomy, College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria. The department is saddled with the responsibility of teaching Veterinary Anatomy that provides knowledge concerned with the form, the disposition, and the structure of the tissues and organs that compose the body. Veterinary Anatomy is one of the basic subjects of veterinary curriculum that deals with architecture of the body including both gross and microscopic features of normal individual animal. Thus, it forms a sound basis for proper understanding of other preclinical and clinical subjects especially physiology, pathology and surgery as well as gynecology, medicine and meat science. It also paves way for learning clinical techniques for proper diagnosis and treatment of various ailments. The essence of anatomy can be well appreciated considering the importance of the skeleton to the entire body of a living organism. In the same vein, the Veterinary Anatomy Department as the skeleton of the College of Veterinary Medicine provides the pivot and support needed for her continued existence.

Established in 2003, the Department of Veterinary Anatomy provides for teaching and research in the fields of gross anatomy, histology and embryology. As a pre-clinical department of the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) programme, the department equips students with the knowledge of the structure and function of living organisms with research areas in Skin Biology; Reproductive and Endocrine Biology, Neuroanatomy, Comparative Anatomy, Environmental Toxicology and Lipid Metabolism in Farm and Laboratory Animals.

Endowed with highly sound and dedicated academics, laboratory technologists, administrative and supporting staff, the department assists the College in producing professionals worthy in character and sound judgment thereby contributing her quota in the realization of the vision of the University.
