The Student Union Government (SUG) of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), recently hosted a female football game, tagged the Clash of the Queens.
This groundbreaking event saw participation from all Colleges on campus, culminating in a thrilling final match that crowned a champion.
The College of Plant Science and Crop Production (COLPLANT) emerged triumphant in this inaugural tournament, showcasing their prowess on the field.
Under the leadership of Coach Apex and Captain Olapade Oluwafunbi, COLPLANT secured a resounding victory in the final match held at the Sports Complex, defeating the College of Agricultural Management and Rural Development (COLAMRUD) with a score of 3-0.
COLPLANT’s journey to victory was marked by an impressive display of skill and determination. The College clinched the gold medal by winning all their matches without conceding a single defeat, maintaining four clean sheets throughout the tournament and scoring numerous goals while conceding none.
The final goals that sealed their triumph were netted by Fateemah Odunewu from the Department of Crop Protection, Precious Aduku from the Plant Breeding and Seed Technology Department and Aishat Oladejo from the same Department.
In recognition of their outstanding performances, Precious Aduku was honoured as the Overall Best Player, while Otun Rofiat earned the title of Best Goalkeeper.
This landmark event not only celebrated the sporting talents of the female students but also marked a significant milestone as the first official football game for females at FUNAAB, featuring 11 players on each team.
The Clash of the Queens SUG Games would undoubtedly be remembered as a momentous occasion that showcased the immense talent and spirit of the female athletes at FUNAAB.
