The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has inducted 80 graduates from the 2023/2024 Academic Session B.Sc. Computer Science cohort into the Computer Professionals (Registration Council of Nigeria) (CPN) on November 15, 2024.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi, congratulated the inductees and encouraged them to uphold integrity in their professional journeys. He commended the graduates for their dedication and acknowledged the support of faculty and staff, which contributed to their academic success.
Themed “Unlocking Opportunities in ICT: Emerging Roles and Responsibilities,” the induction ceremony emphasised the evolving impact of technology in modern society. Prof. Akinyemi noted the dynamic nature of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), highlighting the vast career prospects and challenges that await the new professionals.
In her remarks, Mrs. Elizabeth Adekunle, representing the Registrar/Secretary to the Council of CPN, Mr. Muhammed Aliyu, applauded the graduates for their achievement. She stressed the importance of developing critical skills like adaptability and problem-solving in a rapidly changing technological landscape. Mrs. Adekunle also commended FUNAAB for its proactive approach in shaping graduates who are well-prepared to meet Africa’s digital needs.
The Head of Department of Computer Science, Prof. Oluwasefunmi Arogundade, highlighted the Department’s commitment to innovation and excellence. She spoke about the tailored programmes designed to equip students with skills for the digital economy and urged the graduates to embrace their roles as ICT professionals responsibly, contributing positively to societal development.
The Guest Speaker, Prof. Julius Okesola, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of McPherson University, delivered a Keynote Address on the potential of Nigeria’s ICT sector. He explored emerging roles and responsibilities within the industry, stressing the need for continuous learning and professional certification as key strategies for career advancement.
Dignitaries at the event included the representative of the University Librarian, Prof. Wasiu Lawal, Deans of various colleges, distinguished Professors, and several Academic and Non-Teaching Staff members.
The ceremony marked a significant milestone for both the graduates and the Computer Science Department, showcasing FUNAAB’s commitment to cultivating future ICT leaders equipped to drive innovation and development.
