The Dean, Students Affairs Division, Professor Mobolaji Omemu has stressed the need for leadership skills and responsibilities to be instilled on teenagers at the grass root level.

            Speaking at Teenagers Leadership Conference titled, “Leadership Organogram: From Margin to Center”, Prof. Omemu pointed out that the roles and benefits of leadership among the youths cannot be over emphasised as they are the future of every nation.

            She called on relevant stakeholders to as a matter of urgency ensure that teenagers get the right mentorship, support and push to become responsible and dependable members of the society so that at the long run, they can also positively impact on the society in return. 

            Explaining the benefits of teaching teenagers about leadership, Prof. Omemu said this would help them to be successful in their careers, relationships and develop into   successful people later in life.

            The University Don admonished the participants drawn from various secondary schools in Ogun State to believe and be confident in themselves as leaders of tomorrow.

            Earlier in his Welcome Address, the convener of the programme and founder of ‘LeadHeart Initiative’, Mr. Michael Oloyede said the rationale behind the programme was to allow teenagers have a sense of responsibility on what it takes to be a leader in the society.

            Mr. Oloyede who also is the immediate past President, Student Union (SU), FUNAAB noted that the programme would go a long way in reducing the rate of crime and atrocity among youths as well as expose them to career profiling and other engagements such that they can begin to make conscious efforts to be responsible citizens.

Mr. Oloyede further disclosed that the expected impact of the conference on the teenagers would be to bring about a change of orientation and mindsets, adding that the teenagers would learn, relearn and build themselves, which according to him will metamorphosise in building the Community and the Society at large.

            Earlier, the Dean of College of Plant Science and Crop Production, Prof. Jonathan Atungwu, who identified with the programme’s initiative, appreciated the convener for bringing up such an educative and enlightening programme at a time like this.
