A Professor of Microbiology, Professor (Mrs.) Mobolaji Bankole has said that no individual gets higher by bringing another person down but rather by working as a team, greater successes can be achieved.
Professor Bankole made this remarks while delivering her Farewell Speech at a colourful Send-Forth and 70th birthday ceremony, held in her honour by the Department of Microbiology, College of Biosciences (COLBIOS).
According to the septugenarian, rather than adopt the “Pull Him Down” syndrome, members of staff should always be ready to lend helping hand to one another as the sky is big enough to accommodate all.
‘Mama’ as she is fondly called stressed that in life, some might be ahead of you while some might be behind you but at the appointed time everyone will get to their desired career goals.
Professor Bankole who was the first Head of Department of Microbiology admonished members of the University Community to be prayerful and always commit their ways to God, stating that with God all things are possible.
She also appreciated the Department and the University for the honour of celebrating her, praying that every member of staff will retire meritoriously in due season.
Earlier in her Welcome Address, the Acting Head of Department, Microbiology, Dr. Olufunke Shittu who was represented by Professor Tope Popoola commended Professor Bankole for her doggedness and dedication to work throughout her years of service in the University, stressing that her expertise in the field will be greatly missed.
The Dean of COLBIOS, Professor Akinloye Adeboye lauded Mama for being a very disciplined and exemplary scholar, who came early to work and personally handled important task like recording of results.
She was further commended for her humility, great passion for the growth and development of others, caring and peace loving nature, generosity and love of God.
Professor Tope Popoola appreciated Professor Bankole for being an embodiment of knowledge, easy going and caring attitude, urging members of staff to emulate her.
In his Remark, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kolawole Salako, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Professor Mrs. Morenike Dipeolu appreciated Professor Mrs. Bankole for having served the University meritoriously in various capacities, urging other members of staff to emulate her favourable disposition to assigned tasks.
In the same vein, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Development, Professor Lateef Sanni who disclosed that ‘Mama’was one of his lecturers in FUNAAB, said she has contributed immensely to the development of Science.
Highpoints of the event were rendition of special numbers for Professor Bankole, cutting of the birthday cake, presentation of Award and gifts by staff, students and friends of the retiree.
