The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has again recorded another milestone in its tradition of producing Principal Officers for higher institutions across Nigeria, as one of its Deputy Bursars, Dr. Moses Akpan, has been appointed the substantive Bursar of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO).
The appointment further reinforces the growing reputation of FUNAAB under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, whose administration has produced nearly 20 Principal Officers and senior administrators now serving in various tertiary institutions across the country.
Dr. Akpan, an accomplished Accountant and Administrator, holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting with Second Class Upper Division. He also obtained an MBA and M.Sc. in Accounting from the University of Lagos (UNILAG). In addition, he earned a Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) from the Federal College of Education (FCE), Abeokuta and is duly licensed by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN). He later bagged a Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Uyo.
A qualified member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Dr. Akpan is also awaiting the conferment of the Fellowship status of the Institute. He has published scholarly articles in both local and international journals, while also demonstrating excellence in public financial administration and university accounting systems.
During his distinguished service at FUNAAB, Dr. Akpan worked across virtually all sections of the University’s Bursary Department, garnering extensive experience in financial management, taxation, budgeting and statutory compliance. Prior to his appointment, he served as the Head of Taxes and Statutory Deductions Section, where he handled sensitive assignments including Tax Clearance Certificates (TCC) and National Housing Fund matters.
He also chaired the University’s New Tax Law Implementation Committee, which successfully coordinated the computation and implementation of the new tax regime within the University without disruption. His professional expertise also earned him several appearances before the Senate and House of Representatives Committees, where he defended the University’s financial reports and related matters.
Beyond his administrative duties, Dr. Akpan served as a Part-Time Lecturer in the Department of Accounting, FUNAAB, where he contributed to academic development before assuming his new appointment. His professional experience spans notable institutions including the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, Abuja, and Veritas University. Widely regarded as a highly dedicated, humble and approachable Administrator, Dr. Akpan is known for his diligence, integrity, professionalism and excellent interpersonal relationship with colleagues and stakeholders.
Congratulating Dr. Akpan on his appointment, the Vice-Chancellor of FUNAAB, described the development as a reflection of the quality of leadership and administrative excellence being nurtured at FUNAAB. He noted that the University would continue to contribute capable professionals and Administrators to the nation’s higher education sector.
