On Friday, July 19, 2024, FUNAAB Zoo Park hosted a remarkable training seminar that focused on two critical topics: “Who is a Leader, and Leadership Traits” and “Manuscript and Manuscript Writing.” Held in the Conservation Room, this event was a valuable learning experience for our Curators and SIWES students.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Sammy O. Sam-Wobo, Director of FUNAAB Zoo Park, emphasized the significance of this training as a great privilege for the Curators and Industrial Training Students.
The seminar featured two distinguished resource persons:
- Prof. Sammy O. Sam-Wobo, Director of FUNAAB Zoo Park
- Prof. Dedeke Gabriel, Department of Pure and Applied Zoology, FUNAAB, and current President of SETAC (Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry)
Leadership Traits and Development:
Prof. Sam-Wobo led the first session on leadership, highlighting the objective of leadership development: to make leaders competent enough to function effectively, manage, and influence colleagues, students, and peers.
He introduced the “3 P’s” of leadership: Person, Purpose, and People.
Manuscript Writing:
Prof. Dedeke Gabriel presented the second session, focusing on manuscript writing in a scientific context.
He detailed the procedures for preparing a manuscript for publication and for writing dissertations.
Mr. Emmanuel, Head of Curators, delivered a heartfelt Vote of Thanks, appreciating Prof. Sam-Wobo and Prof. Dedeke for their sacrifice and the privilege extended to the Curators and SIWES students.
Post-training feedback from Miss Bunmi, one of the SIWES students, expressed gratitude for the opportunity, noting its value for her SIWES Report and future Dissertation work.
The Seminar was well attended by FUNAAB Curators, SIWES students, and final-year students from the Department of Pure and Applied Zoology, FUNAAB.
