The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) under the Regional Disease Surveillance Systems Enhancement (REDISSE) Project has allocated 2 Tricycles and 1 Motorcycle to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH), FUNAAB.
Receiving the items, on behalf of the University, the Director, VTH, FUNAAB, Dr. Adekayode Sonibare revealed that the Tricycle and Motorcycle were allocated to VTH, FUNAAB by the Hon. Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Muhammad Sabo Nanono, under the Animal Health Component of the REDISSE Project. He informed that they are meant for ambulatory services, disease surveillance/outbreak investigation and response to public health emergencies, particularly, zoonotic diseases.
He noted that the Project Coordinating Unit is domiciled at the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), headed by a Project Coordinator who is to see to the implementation of the Project’s Development Objectives’ (PDOs) activities.
The PDOs, he said will be carried out under five components such as, Surveillance and Information Systems; Laboratory Strengthening; Preparedness and Emergency Response; Human Resource Management and Institutional Building Capacity, Project Management and Coordination.
REDISSE Project, is World Bank initiated Project, aimed at strengthening national and regional cross-sectoral capacity for collaborative disease surveillance and epidemic preparedness and response in West Africa.
